OIL SPILL HAIRBOOMS AND HAIRMATS
Millions of gallons of oil is floating towards the Gulf Coast after the terribale oil spill. They have come up with a way to help absorbe the oil with something so common as HAIR!
Thousands of salons, groomers, wool farmers, individuals... mail in hair, fur, wool... clippings, swept up off their floors. The fibers are stuffed into recycled nylons and covered in mesh to make booms or, when possible, woven into hair mats. We all know about shampooing our oily hair, but it took Phill McCrory, a stylist from Alabama, to realize that hair was an efficient and abundant material for collecting and containing petroleum spills.
